Eastern Region Director
Roland has been helping fellow members since 1974, when he went to work part-time in a Loblaws meat department. Since those early days, he has held a variety of roles with the local union. These include being a steward, a volunteer organizer, the youth network’s first coordinator, a Special Project Union Representative, a full-time organizer, and a member of various bargaining committees. At the Toronto Divisional Board, Roland started as a member and later served for more than a decade as its president. He remained in this role until he was elected to the local’s Executive Board. Roland also worked on several union projects including training and national campaigns to support strikers. Roland served as the No Frills Director for the local union and in 2014, he became Director–Eastern Region. He is also fluent in Latvian.
