UFCW 1006A delegates chart the path forward for Canada's Best union!

Local 1006A joined hundreds of UFCW Canada delegates at the UFCW Canadian Council Convention in Montréal.

Delegates reviewed the national union’s many accomplishments over the past five years, and charted the path forward for Canada’s best union.

20 resolutions were passed by delegates. Some of the highlights include:

  • a commitment to increase the representation of women on the UFCW Canada National Council
  • establishing a National Young Workers Committee
  • a commitment to seek paid leave for victims of domestic/sexual violence through collective bargaining
  • a commitment to call on government at all levels to fund and implement a comprehensive response to the opiate overdose crisis

"I am so proud of the 1006A delegates who spoke up on the convention floor to these important issues,” said President Wayne Hanley.

Hanley was nominated at convention to serve as a UFCW International Vice-President.

“It is an honour to work with our members to build an even stronger union and a better future for all workers,” said Hanley.
