Women's Network Raises $1,100+ in Community Fundraiser

UFCW Canada Local 1006A’s Women’s Issues Network (WIN) Region 3 hosted its first yard sale of the year, raising $1,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. An additional $125 was raised and donated to Red Door Family Shelter, an organization which provides services for families and individuals who need safe and supportive emergency shelter.“

I want to thank everyone who was gracious enough to donate many items for our event, this would not have been possible without your support,” said Mary-Joe Eaton, who held the yard sale at her home. "It was amazing to be surrounded by so many people coming together for a worthy cause.”

WIN Region 3 is led Mary-Joe, Diane Wilmot and Maria Bocangel.

“With their hard work and dedication, our activists and staff can be proud of the difference they are making in our union and our communities,” said Wayne Hanley, Local 1006A President.

Glacier Effs-Samuel, Recorder and Coordinator of WIN for the local union, congratulated the group on their hard work.

“WIN Region 3 did an incredible job in coming together and fundraising for such important causes,” said Glacier. “Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event a success.”

Executive Assistant to the President Dan Gilbert was also at the event.

"It's rare to see the proceeds from a yard sale donated to great causes,” said Dan Gilbert, Executive Assistant to the President. "I think It makes those that purchase items feel good knowing that they are contributing to a worthy cause."

Diana O’Brien is the coordinator for Leukemia Fundraising at the local union.

“Thank you to WIN Region 3 for your contribution which will help save lives in the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma!”
