Local 1000A and UFCW Canada Local 206 merged on May 1, 2016 to form UFCW Canada Local 1006A.

Pearl_SawyerWe are in the midst of some very challenging times as the working class in North America is increasingly coming under attack. People are concerned about job security, whether or not they will have a comfortable retirement and whether or not their children will have a decent future. It’s likely to get even tougher.

The road ahead will not be easy but I believe with the help of UFCW Canada Local 1000A members, we can rise to meet these challenges and be a strong voice for workers across this province and country.

I am immensely thankful to our brother and former president Kevin Corporon – an exceptional leader -- for leaving Local 1000A with a strong activist base, dedicated staff and proud legacy to build upon. I am deeply humbled and honoured to have been elected by the Local Union’s Executive Board as your next president.

As a new chapter begins at Local 1000A, it’s my firm belief that part of meeting the challenges of this new era involves finding effective communication strategies to reach out to our members. That is why our site has undergone an extensive makeover, from design to content. I thank Kevin for taking the lead on bringing this initiative to life and overseeing the creation of an engaging, informative and relevant online home for Local 1000A.

On the site, you will receive all the latest news on what is happening at Local 1000A, from scholarship winners to contract negotiations to many union events. Our online home will provide a wealth of information to all our members, whether you are an injured worker uncertain about your options or a steward interested in more training opportunities or a new member looking to get information on your contract. Aimed at being member-focused, the site will heavily feature the stories and faces of the many workers and activists who make up Local 1000A.

At Local 1000A, we understand that people absorb information in different ways. That’s why the site, together with Connections, Facebook and Twitter, will serve as fundamental resources for the membership and will bring you information that will help you in your workplace and beyond.

As my tenure as the President of Local 1000A begins, I am proud to launch our redesigned online home. It’s my belief that member education and involvement is critical to building a strong union, and with our communication tools and resources, it’s clear we are on the right track to confronting the challenges that lay ahead.
