1UFCW Canada Local 1000A flags flew high at Brockville Pride on July 20, 2013.

"The struggle for equality and fairness is one that unites us all," said President Pearl Sawyer.

Local 1000A Members marched in the annual parade, which began at Brockville Armouries and finished at Hardy Park.

“It was our first year and we are happy with how it turned out,” said Ian Stables, a steward from a Brockville Real Canadian Superstore and a member of the Local 1000A Pride Advisory Group. “Next year, we hope to have a bigger presence.”

In addition to the parade, the local union also had a booth set up at Hardy Park.

“On behalf of Local 1000A, I want to thank our members for their participation and support in ensuring this event was a success,” Sawyer said. “I also want to thank Ian for his enthusiasm and dedication in organizing our union’s presence in this event. 

Brockville Pride marks the second pride event that Local 1000A has participated in. A month ago, Local 1000A participated in the Toronto Pride Parade and Streetfair. On August 25, UFCW Canada 1000A flags will be flying high at the Capital (Ottawa) Parade
