Local 1000A and UFCW Canada Local 206 merged on May 1, 2016 to form UFCW Canada Local 1006A.

FedForwardTeam-300A new leadership team will be at the helm at the Ontario Federation of Labour with Chris Buckley as President, Patty Coates as Secretary-Treasurer, and Local 1000A's own Ahmad Gaied as Executive Vice-President.

Buckley and Coates were acclaimed while Gaied faced an election with two other candidates at the 13th Biennal OFL Convention.

Local 1000A is proud to congratulate Chris, Patty and Ahmad, who ran as part of the dynamic and progressive FedForward team. With the diversity of their backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, Chris, Patty and Ahmad are firmly rooted in the day-to-day experiences of workers around the province and have already developed a strong unity of purpose to move the federation forward.

Many Local 1000A members know Ahmad as a union activist with UFCW Canada Local 1000A and a retail worker at No Frills and Loblaws for many years. Ahmad has served as a steward, certified instructor and a certified member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
