Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

UFCW Canada Local 1006A is proud to be the leading union for hospitality and service workers, recently welcoming our newest members from Swiss Chalet in Ancaster.

With workers from this new location voting to join 1006A, we now represent members at close to 45 restaurants across Ontario. Our new members will be protected under the 1006A union contract for Swiss Chalet.

“We are the union for restaurant, hospitality and service workers in Ontario and we continue to grow our union density in this sector. Swiss Chalet workers know they can count on UFCW 1006A to win strong contracts and build fairer workplaces,” said President Wayne Hanley. “We are proud to be union for Swiss Chalet workers and are excited to welcome our newest members from Ancaster to the union family. We look forward to working with our members to improve their rights and livelihoods now and into the future.”

Key issues included seniority concerns, change in restaurant ownership (from franchise to corporate) and members wanting to be included under the existing union collective agreement with Swiss Chalet.

“The workers were united and determined to gain the union representation and protection that many of their co-workers enjoy as part of UFCW 1006A,” said Lesley Prince, Director of Organizing. “This victory is a testament to their solidarity.”

Members at Swiss Chalet work in a variety of roles including servers, hosts, cooks, and dishwashers.
