Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

Workers at the Swiss Chalet restaurant and Harvey's (take-out) in Ajax have voted to join UFCW 1006A.

"On behalf of UFCW 1006A, I am proud to congratulate these Swiss Chalet workers on their inspiring victory,” said President Wayne Hanley. "UFCW 1006A is proud to be the best union for restaurant workers in Ontario and we have a strong track record of helping our members win rights and improvements in this industry. As the union for Swiss Chalet workers, we are pleased to welcome our newest members into our union family.”

The restaurant consists of 48 members, working as kitchen staff, hostesses, servers and in take-out.

"My rationale behind wanting to unionize my store was to ensure that the young staff were looked after,” said Joshua, who works at the restaurant. "I was pleasantly surprised by how supportive the union was throughout the process."

Key issues that led to unionization include the need for job protections and security and being treated fairly without favouritism in the workplace.

"Workers demonstrated incredible solidarity and we are very proud of their determination and commitment to improving their workplace not just themselves but for their co-workers,” said Lesley Prince, Director of Organizing.

In 2023, Swiss Chalet workers in Ancaster also voted to join our union. UFCW 1006A is proud to be home to more than 1,400 Swiss Chalet workers across Ontario.
