Local 1000A and UFCW Canada Local 206 merged on May 1, 2016 to form UFCW Canada Local 1006A.

The Equal Pay Coalition has succeeded in putting forth amendments to the Putting Students First Act, a controversial piece of legislation that imposes wage freezes on teachers and takes away their right to strike.

The changes ensure that pay equity adjustments are not affected by the compensation freeze under the new legislation. Local 1000A is a member of the Equal Pay Coalition and has been active in advocating for pay equity for decades.

GreatFood-Draft-2010-2015After several draft exchanges between your Union and the Company, Local 1000A is pleased to announce hard copies of the Loblaws Great Food appendices and letters of understanding covering Loblaws Great Food workers are being printed and will be available for distribution by the end of the month. In order for our members to access this information as quickly as possible, we have also uploaded an electronic “draft” of the Loblaws Great Food booklet online. The full Collective Agreement covering Loblaws Conventional, RCSS and Great Food is over 450 pages.

IMG_2203Local 1000A was out in full force as members joined tens of thousands of marchers at Toronto’s annual Labour Day Parade on September 3, 2012. Decked out in their UFCW gold t-shirts, Local 1000A members, along with their family and friends, danced, chanted and flew their UFCW flags high as they marched from Queen St and University Ave to the CNE.

pride4Under clear blue skies, thousands of participants, including Local 1000A staff, members and activists, took to the streets of downtown Ottawa on August 26, 2012 to celebrate the Capital Pride Parade. Decked out in UFCW gold T-shirts, they danced and waved flags as they made their way through the downtown core.
