ExecutiveBoardResults2012Voting for the UFCW Canada Local 1000A Executive Board elections came to a close on Monday November 5, 2012. Thanks to all those who participated in the Local 1000A election process.

The following have been elected to serve on the UFCW Canada Local 1000A Executive Board for the term of January 1, 2013 through to December 31, 2016.

Local 1000A will be participating in the annual Milton Christmas Parade on November 18, 2012.

Members are encouraged to bring non-perishable canned food donations with them for the Food Bank.

To walk the parade route, join us at 1:30 p.m. at Bronte Street and Anne Boulevard in Milton, Ontario. Our line-up position is # 34.

ballotboxdarkThe nomination process for the UFCW Canada Local 1000A Executive Board elections came to a close on Monday, September 10 at 4:30pm. Elections will take place across Ontario (October 21 - November 5) for the positions where more than one candidate successfully sought nomination.

Record number of Canadians are turning to food banks as the gap widens between the rich and poor.

Without the generosity of strangers and social justice organizations, almost 900,000 Canadians – including 342,000 children – would go without food this month.

Food banks have long helped to feed the most vulnerable members of society, but in the last few years those numbers have grown significantly, and the definition of “vulnerable” has expanded to include a growing number of employed Canadians who can’t earn enough to sustain themselves and their families.

Since 1990, the centre reports the tuition fees across Canada have been increasing faster than incomes. Fees have grown from an average of $1,744 in 1990-1991 to $6,186 in 2011-2012.
