On behalf of UFCW 1006A, I want to wish you and your family a Happy New Year.
Over the last year and half, I have been inspired by the resilience and strength of our members in the face of the pandemic.
Despite the challenging and dark times, 1006A members continue to keep our communities and province running, while also finding solidarity and strength in each other.
Once again we are faced with a new COVID-19 variant and like we did before, I know we will find a way to get through it together. With COVID-19 spreading through the air and cases rising rapidly, it’s vital to properly mask, take precautions and get your booster shot. Many are exhausted but the reality is, the virus is still with us, so we need to continue to take steps to be safe to protect ourselves, our co-workers, and our loved ones.
Getting vaccinated, getting the booster shots, following public health guidelines are the ways to keep our hospital ICUs from being overwhelmed and our healthcare system from being strained and unable to deal with non-covid health issues that arise.
We are living in difficult and uncertain times – but please remember, you are not alone. If you or a loved one is experiencing mental health challenges, reach out for help. Your union has a list of resources that may help.
In 2022, we will continue our work of protecting and defending our members. This includes negotiating improvements to many of our members union contracts as they come up for renewal. We need our members’ support, solidarity and strength to achieve the gains you deserve – if your contract is up for renewal this year, I encourage you to attend meetings and get involved.
As we look ahead to the new year, I want to thank you for being part of the 1006A family.
While another year will undoubtedly bring new challenges, I want you to know that you can count on your union to be there for you and to advocate to make life better for you and your family. As always, reach out to your union rep – we are here for you.
