IMG_1860Local 1000A members in the Toronto-area blew away the judges and the crowds with their many talents, which ranged from Taekwondo to singing to dancing.

“It was incredible to see how much talent Local 1000A has,” said Secretary-Treasurer Tony Soares. “I want to thank all our contestants for sharing their amazing talents with us and making the day an unforgettable one.”

April Cole was declared the winner after showcasing her Taekwondo skills.

The talent show was one of the many activities at Toronto’s third annual Community Action Network (CAN) picnic. The all-day event drew people of all ages and cultures and also featured soccer, a jumping castle, face-painting, bingo and all-you-can-eat BBQ.

Bill Fowlie, a Local 1000A steward, said he had a great time.

“It was fun— it’s good to see people bring out their families and good to see everyone enjoying themselves.”

Victor Bettencourt, a server at HMS Host, came with his daughter, Katlynn. It was their first time at the event.

“It was awesome,” he said, adding his daughter participated in al the activities and really enjoyed herself. “It’s a great day and I would recommend it to everyone.”
