Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

1006A is proud to welcome our newest members from Park Lawn Preschool, Humber Bay Child Care Centre to the union.

"We decided on a union together because we understand the value of unity,” said new member, Evie Gonzalez. "We wanted fairness and recognition in our field where we've given our time, careers, and our hearts."

Twenty-one workers make up the newly organized unit and work as Registered Early Childhood Educators, Early Childhood Assistants, and Housekeeper.

“Welcome to the UFCW Canada Local 1006A family,” said President Wayne Hanley. "We are proud to congratulate our newest members on their solidarity and determination in achieving union representation. Unionization is the key to improving workers’ rights and livelihoods and we look forward to working with this unique group of workers to achieve fairness and respect at work.”

Based in Etobicoke, Park Lawn Preschool is a not-for-profit which offers child care services.

“We wanted a union not only for the pay, but for fairness and equity,” said one worker, who preferred to be anonymous. “We wanted to be able to voice our opinions and for upper management to hear us and for actual change to happen."

Park Lawn operates 3 centres, including Humber Bay. Since reopening last month, the child care centre has been offering services to essential workers.

If you know of any workers or workplaces that can benefit from union representation, please contact our union's Organizing Department.
