Union Negotiations Update – No Frills 2022

The Union Negotiations Committee held its first meeting on February 24, as part of the ongoing preparations for No Frills negotiations.

Your union committee is composed of experienced union negotiators, including nine union staff, and thirteen members who work at No Frills locations across Ontario.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the proposal forms submitted by members and discussed and formulated the union’s formal proposals to be presented to the company when negotiations begin. A vast majority of the members' proposals made it clear that significant wage increases are the number one priority. Additional key improvements, raised in the members' proposals and discussed by the committee, will also be brought forward during negotiations.

Your union’s goal is to achieve the best possible contract for our members. Your committee is dedicated to negotiating a strong and fair renewal contract for our members, who have helped make No Frills and Loblaw the success it is today. However, in negotiations, there are no guarantees, and members should plan for all possible outcomes.

Preparations for the No Frills negotiations began last year.

Our first meetings with the company to exchange proposals are set for March 30 & 31, 2022. Additional negotiation dates are set for the last week of April.

The strength of your union negotiating committee comes from our members. When members are united behind their committee, it shows your employer that you are serious and committed to achieving a fair contract. I encourage all members to stay informed and engaged throughout this process. Talk to your co-workers about the contract improvements you deserve and attend union membership meetings that will be scheduled as this process unfolds.

We will have more to report in the weeks to come – please keep an eye on your email and your union bulletin board for future updates.

If you have any additional questions regarding the negotiations process, please do not hesitate to contact your union rep.

In Solidarity,

Wayne Hanley (he/him)
