UFCW 1006A members, who work at Transition House Coalition of Northumberland in Cobourg, have ratified their first union contract after voting to join the local union earlier this year.
The three-year contract covers 20 members who are employed as Shelter Services workers.
“I think the new contract is phenomenal and it works for all of us,” said Mirna Rawdah, a negotiating committee member.
“We are proud to congratulate our membership on achieving a fair first contract,” said President Wayne Hanley. “The UFCW 1006A advantages provides workers with the protection and power they need to transform their workplaces and communities.”
The negotiating committee included members Mirna Rawdah, Alyssa Stansfield and Lori Sturzennegger and Union Representative Dustin Magee.
“We worked really hard and I thought the contract was good – everyone seemed very happy with it,” said Lori Sturzennegger, a member of the committee.
