Every year, UFCW 1006A members observe the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, from November 25 to December 10.
Together, the union raises awareness to help end violence against women and children.
According to the United Nations, one in three women are affected by violence. The theme for 2025 is “Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.” Digital violence includes online harassment, stalking, threats, bullying and misogynistic forums.
Year after year, violence is the heartbreaking reality for women and children in Canada and around the world – many of whom suffer in silence.
"Gender-based violence is unacceptable and we must do everything in our power to support victims and survivors," said President Wayne Hanley. "I encourage all members to observe the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Together, let's build a safer world for all women and children."
It is clear that collective action is needed to combat all forms of violence. That is why we encourage all members to observe this time in their own way.
During the 16 Days of Activism, 1006A’s Women’s Issues Network members are undertaking initiatives in their workplaces to raise awareness.
