Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

Long-time Union Representative Gord Jackson has retired, after 20 years at the local union.

“On behalf of UFCW 1006A, I am proud to congratulate Gord for his lifetime of service to the membership of our great union,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Thank you for help making a difference for so many of our members.”

Gord has been helping members since 1978 when he began working as an assembler at Associated Freezers, a Loblaws-leased warehouse.

In the early 1980s, he moved to the Erin Mills Distribution Centre where he worked as an afternoon receiver. Already a ‘go-to person’ for those with work problems, Gord also became a steward shortly afterwards.

In 1994, his involvement with the union deepened as he was appointed a member and later, elected as the Secretary-Treasurer of the warehouse division.

Along the way, he remained involved in the union, participating in everything from seminars to conferences to conventions. Gord was working as a truck control board operator when he was hired on staff in 2000.

As a Union Representative, Gord remained a “go-to person” helping hundreds of members resolve workplace issues. During his final years at the local, Gord worked on special projects focused on enhancing our local’s connection to members.

Thank you and congratulations on your retirement Gord!
