UFCW 1006A members at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Markham have ratified a new union contract.

The term of the contract is February 6, 2025 to February 5, 2028 and covers 35 members.

“I want to thank our negotiating committee for their hard work and dedication in achieving a fair union contract for our members at this hotel,” said President Wayne Hanley. “UFCW 1006A is committed to working with our members to improve and protect their rights under their union contract.”

The negotiating committee included members, Elaine Cheng, Dave Ramnarine and Union Representatives, Joe Blythe and Daiana Dumitru.

Highlights

  • 11 per cent wage increase over the term of the contract
  • Elimination of the two-year wage progression
  • Language to reduce the number of rooms that housekeepers are required to clean
  • Improvements to paramedical coverage (including physiotherapy, massage, acupuncture and chiropractic care)
  • Increase to shoe allowance
  • A significant decrease to the premiums members pay for benefits
  • An additional week of vacation to members with 15 years of service
