Local 1000A went pink on April 10, 2013 to mark the International Day of Pink against bullying, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia in our schools, workplaces and communities. The day was an opportunity to celebrate the great diversity within our union and society and to take a stand against bullying.

pride4UFCW Canada Local 1000A is proud to announce it has been named Local Union of the Year by the UFCW Minority Coalition for its work with many diverse communities.

“With more than 1,000 Locals in the UFCW International Union, our Sisters and Brothers at Local 1000A should be very proud of their efforts for receiving this very special acknowledgement,” says UFCW Canada National President Wayne Hanley. “This recognition says a great deal about Local 1000A’s outstanding leadership and activism, and their high level of commitment to creating the most dynamic, innovative and inclusive Local Union possible.

pride4Under clear blue skies, thousands of participants, including Local 1000A staff, members and activists, took to the streets of downtown Ottawa on August 26, 2012 to celebrate the Capital Pride Parade. Decked out in UFCW gold T-shirts, they danced and waved flags as they made their way through the downtown core.
