Local 1006A hosts fundraising event.

UFCW Canada Local 1006A made waves for charity as 250 participants came together for Summer Splash on August 13, 2016. Hosted by Local 1006A, the event featured dancing, music and much more.

Summer Splash is an annual fundraiser for Faces of Our Children, an organization which raises funds and awareness for the fight against Sickle Cell disease worldwide. Faces of our Children is the adopted charity of choice for the UFCW International Minority Coalition.

Funds will also be donated to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC), UFCW Canada’s charity of choice which funds lifesaving research into blood cancers.

“Summer Splash is about creating waves of hope so we can one day find a cure for these devastating diseases which affect the lives of so many of our members and so many Canadians from coast to coast,” said President Wayne Hanley. "For our hopes to be realized, we must take concrete action by raising awareness and funds and mobilizing members of our unions and communities to join us in making a difference.”

Summer Splash was held after a successful Caribana season, where UFCW Canada Local 1006A participated in the Grand Parade and Junior Carnival.

UFCW Canada is a long-time supporter of both charities, organizing a variety of fundraising events through the years.
