Local 1006A members at Dewe’s Your Independent Grocer in Belleville ratified a fair union contract with wage increases and other improvements.

Local 1006A members at Dewe’s Your Independent Grocer in Belleville ratified a fair union contract with wage increases and other improvements.

Ratified on July 3, 2016, the contract runs from February 3, 2015 to February 3, 2022 and covers 162 members.

Highlights of the agreement:

  • Wage Increases for members who work full-time
  • Wage increases and improvement to the part-time wage grid. As members work more hours and move up the wage progression, they will see the gap between their hourly wage and minimum wage increase. Past minimum wage increases were not applied to all workers in the wage progression which led to many workers with greater hours not being fairly compensated for their time with the company. This has now been rectified. All part-time at the end rate are guaranteed a minimum gap above the minimum wage
  • Creation of two new full-time bargaining unit positions
  • Creation of a full-time salad bar Manager to the bargaining unit

Bargaining was led by Union Representative Gord Albert with support from Director (Eastern Region) Roland Lapins and members, Patricia Cane and Brad Handy.
