UFCW 1006A members working for Compass Group Canada at York University ratified a new union contract making significant gains to wages and benefits.

“The wage increase was definitely a highlight,” said Manasha Perera, a member of the union negotiating committee. “The shoe allowance increase and the new sweaters we are getting covered for our uniform were really appreciated by members.”

The three-year contract term is from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029 and covers nearly 20 members that work in a variety of roles at the Tim Hortons in the VP Dahdaleh building on the York campus.

“Congratulations to our members at Compass for continuing to set a high bar for union contracts in food service,” said President Wayne Hanely. “Our members’ tangible gains highlight what solidarity makes possible through their Union.”

Perera, who works as a team lead and has been a Local 1006A member for two years, thanked her Union Representative Daiana Dumitru who led negotiations.

“The union did an amazing job and listened to all of our needs,” said Perera. “The members are very happy.”

Highlights Include:

  • Wage increases of 12% over the contract term, with 5% at ratification
  • Increase to premium shift pay
  • Increase to shoe allowance & improved language for uniforms
  • Increase to vision care coverage
  • Reduction of premiums paid by the employees for medical benefits – employer now pays 80% of the cost
