Local 1006A participates in Light the Night in Toronto.

Lighting paper lanterns, Local 1006A members became beacons of hope in the night sky in London, Toronto and Ottawa.

Over $15,000 was raised at the three Light the Night fundraisers in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

"I’m very proud of our union’s commitment to eradicating this deadly disease,” said President Wayne Hanley, who participated in Toronto. “The money our members have raised over the past three decades means more people are living longer and beating this once fatal diagnosis.”

The union’s participation was organized by 1006A's Leukemia Fundraising Coordinator Diana O’Brien.

"By participating in the walks we not only provide funding for research, we also give hope to those with the diagnosis of a blood cancer,” said O’Brien.

Since, 1985 UFCW Canada and it’s members have raised over $38 million to find a cure.
