UFCW 1006A members at Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer (YIG) in Cornwall have ratified a new union contract.
The term of the contract is from April 7, 2024 to September 20, 2028 and covers 185 members.
The negotiating committee included members, Barry Height, Sandra Mattice, Regional Director Gord Albert and Union Representative Gloria Elstone.
“It is the most money I have ever seen in a union contract — the wage increases are significant and that extra money goes a long way during these times,” said Barry Height, a negotiating committee member who added the bonuses also made a difference for workers.
"The majority were happy and it’s a pretty positive reaction,” Height added.
“All across Ontario, UFCW 1006A is improving workers’ lives by negotiating fair and strong union contracts,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Membership support and participation are crucial to achieving a fair union contract and improving working conditions. I am proud to congratulate our negotiating committee and our membership at Baxtrom’s YIG on their new union contract.”
