Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

1006A members at Ecotex have achieved a new union contract, after a difficult set of negotiations.

The term of the contract is from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2027 and covers approximately 450 members.

“It was a fabulous contract – it was a struggle to get there but it was worth it,”  said Ann-Marie Dopwell, who has worked at Ecotex for 25 years.  “This is the best contract money-wise that we have ever gotten –  the majority of the workers were happy with the contract.”

The negotiating committee included Alexander Amador, Ann-Marie Dopwell, Rajwinder Dulay, (Extra Space)Mohammed Kamaluddin, Soinadeep Kaur, Miguel Vargas and Union Representatives Jonathan Lobo and Joshua Robichaud.

“It was an eye-opening experience to serve on the negotiating committee and the contract was a step in the right direction,” said Dopwell, who participated on the negotiating committee for the first time.

“Union representation is critical to building fairer workplaces and communities,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Member unity, engagement and support are critical to achieving fair contracts. When workers come together, they create positive change. I am proud of our negotiating committee who worked hard to ensure our members’ voices were heard.”
