Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

UFCW Local 1006A has helped former members recover $3.6 million owed to them after their employer, Neptune Security Services filed for bankruptcy.

In May 2023, hundreds of 1006A members lost their jobs with no notice as Neptune became insolvent and ceased operations. Workers did not receive their final pay cheques or severance pay.

Under Canadian law, employees are classified as unsecured creditors when a company goes bankrupt. Workers are left to fend for themselves to get what they are owed – having a union meant that 1006A members didn’t have to face this challenge alone.

Local 1006A took action to support members and worked to recoup the money owed to them. Working with the bankruptcy trustee, 1006A was able to verify members eligibility under the federal Wage Earner Protection Program.

“I’m proud of the significant money we helped recover for our former members at Neptune,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Our members can always depend on their union to fight for them when faced with difficult and uncertain situations.”
