Our Canada Includes Immigrants and Refugees – We're Better Together Canada Campaign Graphic

Canada has a history of being pro-immigration though statistics indicate that this is reversing.

The 2025 Federal Budget showed a 21% drop in permanent resident targets for 2025 which are set to continue, along with tightened rules for international students and temporary workers.

Support for refugees, migrants and immigrants is critical if we are to protect and defend the rights of all workers in Canada.

With a rise in xenophobia through legislative attacks and immigration enforcements in both Canada and the U.S., including dislike or prejudice against foreigners, we must continue to spread a message of unity and solidarity.

The Canadian Council for Refugees has responded by launching the We’re Better Together Campaign. The campaign aims to counter hate towards immigrants and refugees in Canada and grow support for these communities.

UFCW Canada has signed on as a partner to this campaign because we believe that cutting immigration levels and rolling back newcomer support services undermines the rights of refugees, migrants and immigrants in Canada. It wrongfully projects blame towards immigrants, migrants and refugees, depicting them as responsible for Canada’s weakened social safety net, housing and economic insecurities. However, these are deflection tactics that attempt to diminish the federal government's resposibility and their failure to address the ongoing systemic inequities affecting all workers.
