Ontario's Union for fairness, equality and respect at work.

Security guards and dispatchers, working for Cadillac Fairview Corporation, have voted to join UFCW 1006A.

The bargaining unit consists of 15 members working at the Fairview Mall in Toronto.

The key issues, which led the security guards to seek unionization, included job security, safety, wages and benefits.

“UFCW 1006A is the best union in Ontario for all workers, including security guards seeking protection, benefits, and a voice at work,” said President Wayne Hanley. “Our union has a strong track record of helping security guards transform their workplace for the better. When workers come together for each other, they can achieve great things.”

“The determination and solidarity of the workers was inspiring,” said Lesley Prince, Director of Organizing for UFCW 1006A. “This victory is a testament to the positive change that workers can create when they unite for fairness.”

One security guard, who voted for unionization, said: "The workplace has been in a transition and there have been a lot of uncertainties from the employer and we wanted to have someone who was there to represent us and help us through this tough time and in the future."
