UFCW Canada Local 1006A congratulates Growth Coordinator Jonathan Lobo on being elected to serve as the new Treasurer/Financial Secretary of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists – Ontario Canada Chapter.

UFCW Canada Local 1006A is proud to congratulate the confirmed recipients of our Scholarship Program. Forty-two scholarships, worth $500 each, will be awarded to 1006A members or children/dependents.

On December 6, UFCW Canada Local 1006A activists, staff and officers came together together at a Shoe Memorial for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

“The majority of the voting population are workers like us, and we want to make sure working-class voices are heard by politicians,” said Emily Boyer, a union steward at the Whitby Superstore.

“It was a fantastic contract and the members voted overwhelmingly for it,” said member Mekonnen Geresin.

UFCW 1006A members, who work at Transition House Coalition of Northumberland in Cobourg, have ratified their first union contract after voting to join the local union earlier this year.

After voting to join UFCW 1006A earlier this year, members at Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Mississauga (Airport Corporate Centre West) have achieved a fair union contract.
