
UFCW 1006A members at Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer (YIG) in Cornwall have ratified a new union contract with several gains.

2020 has been a year of massive change as the world has faced economic and social upheaval. The emergence and rapid spread of COVID-19 has drastically affected the lives of our members and everyone in Canada.

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Local 1006A members at iFly Toronto (Oakville) have achieved a new union contract.

After working at Loblaws for eight months, Laura Roberge became a steward after she helped a co-worker with stat pay questions.

UFCW 1006A is welcoming stewards from across Ontario to our fall Stewards’ Training courses at the union office.

“The majority of the voting population are workers like us, and we want to make sure working-class voices are heard by politicians,” said Emily Boyer, a union steward at the Whitby Superstore.

“It was a fantastic contract and the members voted overwhelmingly for it,” said member Mekonnen Geresin.
